I teach private guitar lessons to students of all ages and skill levels. Each lesson is carefully structured according to the individual student’s needs. Please see below for prices as well as summaries of teaching plans broken down by skill level.
Your first guitar lesson is an exciting time! I begin by evaluating a student’s goals, whether it is to pursue music as a hobby or possible career path, and design a lesson structure from there. With young students, I work together with the parent(s) to determine the best route for the child to follow. We will begin with basic tenants of guitar playing and gradually introduce beginning repertoire.
We will begin with whatever repertoire you are currently studying for the first few lessons, and begin to work on the following things in depth:
- right hand technique (arpeggios, rest/free stroke, scales, nail shaping/care)
- left hand technique (slurs, scales, extensions, barrés)
- interpretation and performance etiquette
- knowledge of entire fretboard
With advanced students, I heavily emphasize independence and interpretation skills. We will discuss your goals in detail to determine the best repertoire for you. I encourage performance and we will discuss techniques to combat performance anxiety, increase practice efficiency and develop a better understanding of music and memorization.
If you have studied guitar on and off for several years and then stopped- welcome back! Being a remedial student gives you an opportunity to study guitar with a whole new perspective. We will evaluate your current abilities and goals and then jump right back in!
